Standards-Based Grading - The Walker County School District has adopted Standards-Based Grading. Grading scale scores (1-4) will replace percentage scores on practice assignments.  Practice assignments are color coded green in PowerSchool.  The grading scale scores are as follows:
1 - Limited progress within the standard.
2 - Moderate progress toward the standard.
3 - Consistent progress toward the standard (Meets).
4 - Content mastery (Exceeds).
"Incomplete" will indicate no work was turned in.  These scores are tied to descriptions of what the students know and are able to do.

Students will continue to have traditional scores on assessments and on the report card.  Assessments are color coded blue in PowerSchool.  The nine weeks grade will be an average of the assessments.

Warm-ups - Each day when students enter class, they have a warm-up on the board they are to begin working on.  We work these problems on the board and students are to ask questions if they do not understand how to work the problems and to correct any wrong answers.

Class work - Students work in pairs or individually on class work.  They may ask for help and check their answers for correctness before turning their work in.

Homework - Students usually do not have any homework unless they do not finish their class work.  However, they should rework the problems each night to ensure they understand the concept they are learning and to help retain the concept.  Please ask your students to work some problems for you that they worked on during class to ensure they are understanding the concepts.

Assessments - Per Walker County practices, parents will be notified if a student fails an assessment. Students are allowed to retake assessments. They may retake the assessment within two weeks and the new grade will replace the prior grade. The assessment must be signed by the parent in order for the student to retake the assessment. The re-assessment will consist of different problems covering the same concept, so students should study before the re-assessment in order to ensure success. Thank you.
